trying to rework the logo...showing a version of last week's cover for reference

tweaking feature #2

playing with the jumps for the vegas article - changed the scale of some images and have grayscaled everything to give the entire article a more cohesive look. i'm liking the grayscale - it gives an added elegance/mystery to the images and makes the reader want to know more.

any thoughts? do you prefer this to my previous jumps where 4 images were the same scale?

revisions galore

lots of little tweaks and changes based on proofreading...added captions and credit lines where they were missing. reworked the folio - it's smaller, thinner and gotham (aka no longer heavy and distracting). reworked the logo - now the ampersand isn't all you see when you look at it. have 2 options for contents page (white image or green? i showed the green one last class and no one really commented, which means it's fine i assume).













separated the letters in the headline...


checked the image of tom - i think he looks skinnier because of the way the image is cropped. when you see the full image it looks normal.


i went back to the original photo and realized that there was actually more water on the bottom, so i shifted the image, which i think helps a lot. i prefer having the headline somewhat obscured in the water along with subhead and byline.

and added a second jump...


tried to make the opener relate to the jump better by making the white bar the same width as the image bars on the jump.

surprise, surprise, i can't seem to pick an image. the text type is the same for all layouts, just different images. will add in photo credits & caption once image is selected. side note: contents image will not be the same as the cover.
